Nigerian U17 Set To Hit Abuja
Eaglets defeated their Malian counterparts in a pulsating encounter 2 – 0, helping Nigeria retain the title they also won in 2013
.
As if the trophy was not enough for the Nigerians, Eaglets captain, Kelechi Nwakali, was also named the most valuable player of the tournament and was presented with the golden ball.
Victor Osimhen emerged as
the golden-boot having scored 10 times at the tournament making him the all-time leading scorer at the age-grade competition.
The Nigerian number-9 was also voted the second best player of the tournament.
Meanwhile, President Buhari who was military head of state 30 years ago when Nigeria won the inaugural FIFA cadet World Cup in China, and actually gave the team the nickname ‘Golden Eaglets’ has sent his congratulatory message to the team 2015 team.
Buhari applauds the exemplary zeal, determination, commitment, hard work, patriotism and soccer artistry which the youthful Golden Eaglets put on display throughout the tournament to win the championship for a record fifth time.
